Handmade Fabric Door Name Plaques.

It’s funny how life is. Some of my best products have come from requests from you lovely customers. I was asked if I could make something for my friend’s Children’s doors. Admittedly it took me 3 months to complete the project  although I was heavily pregnant at the time. The final product was just what my friend wanted, lightweight, fun and colourful door name plaques.

My friends original order was for 3, which then grew to 6 with another order from my friend’s mother. Sometimes these projects can be a breath of fresh air, allowing me to really get my creative cap on in order to produce some handmade door plaques to rival the more popular wooden versions.

I like to really tap into my customers minds, trying to gain as much information about the people the door name plaques are for. With the vast quantities of fabric styles available there is always some style of fabric that is perfect for them.

The 3 months taken to complete the door plaques was well spent developing the idea, using old remnants of fabric, trying out different fonts and even some freehand embroidery.

The first one I made was for my nephew Cayden, a 2 yr old boy with a love for all things cars. His dad works in the construction industry and boys all love the colour blue. I found this adorable construction site fabric and cut out a traffic cone and car from felt. I stitched the letters using a yellow thread to help the name stand out.

My handmade fabric door name plaques are made using good quality cottons, from 100% cotton to stylish printed poly cottons combined with wool mix felt that is great for bold lettering. They are padded out with wadding and interfacing is used to provide stability.
